These simple and practical design tips will help you luxuriate in any bedroom and create an inviting atmosphere in the comfort of your sleeping space
When it comes to interior decorating, they say the devil is in the details. So, if you have been trying for quite some time now to turn your bedroom into your favorite five-star hotel suite on a limited budget, here are a few design tricks that will make you pay attention to these little details that can make a big impact in your space as you spruce up your bedroom. Scroll down to find out more.
1. Water Spray your Bed for Wrinkle-free Sheets
Nothing beats the look of a well-made bed with sleek bedsheets and pillows, as they ooze expensive hotel suite vibes. But, if you have no time to steam and iron your bedsheets, the little trick you can use is to simply fill a little spray bottle with lukewarm water and spray all the bedding. When doing so, make sure to pull the bedsheet tights to allow the drips of water to relax the bedding materials in such a way that they gradually become smooth and wrinkle-free.
Consider doing it every time you wash your sheets, because they generally tend to come out wrinkly, and wrinkles just create this messy feeling when left unattended. So, if you are hosting friends and family overnight, make sure you grab a little spray bottle to gently sprinkle water on your sheets and make them look perfect.
2. Invest in Beautiful Nightstands
Create a more polished look in your bedroom with nightstands ideally on either side of your bed. This will help balance the weight of your furniture across your bedroom. Usually, your bed is the largest piece of furniture in your bedroom. So, flanking it on either side with larger pieces of furniture really helps make your space look more proportional.
Sometimes finding nightstands that are large enough and have storage is difficult. Consider purchasing either a chest of drawers or a dresser that will pair well with the size of your bed. Go as wide as you can with nightstands, especially if you have a king or queen-sized bed and adequate space for them.
Spend time checking out thrift stores, and second-hand and vintage furniture shops to find unique items that you can opt to repurpose for a very sophisticated and original look.
3. Keep Clutter Away
An organized and tidy bedroom always looks more expensive than a cluttered messy space. But bedrooms get messy since we use them every day. So, it’s all about how you can find ways to maximize storage in your bedroom to make it easier to keep it tidy and well put together.
Woven baskets, decorative trays, and boxes are great storage options to hide the clutter away whilst keeping the everyday items that you need within reach. Nothing is really that organized, but the big mess is hidden behind decorative pieces.
For example, you can put on display your everyday perfume bottles and products on decorative trays to keep them within reach and make them all look intentional instead of scattered and messy around your bedroom. This instantly cleans up the look of your room and adds a little bit of texture and hints of color at the same time.
4. Incorporate Additional Seating
Having a little lounge chair, a bench, or a chaise longue in a spacious bedroom adds glamour and high-end hotel vibes to a sleeping room.
Not every bedroom is going to have the space for an additional chair or seating spot, but if you have the space for it definitely do it. For tight bedrooms, try a simple bench to finish off the end of your bed to make your bedroom look polished and layered.
For large spaces, consider a small sofa or two swivel chairs at the end of your bed, or just create a reading corner however feasible.
5. Luxuriate your Room with a Rug
Whether you have hardwood flooring, tiles, or carpeting in your bedroom, you definitely need to consider adding a rug underneath your bed. It will help pull your room together and anchor the entire space, adding that instant designer touch.
Go as large as you can with a bedroom rug, but always make sure it’s at least halfway under the bed and spans the width from one nightstand to the next. This is what’s going to expand the look of your bedroom and make it look larger.
6. Double Up on your Window Treatments
I love the idea of having at least two types of window treatments in the bedroom. They add depth and sophistication to any bedroom. The first window treatment serves to filter and keep the light out of the room. Blackout curtains really help create that hotel feel by really darkening your space so that you can get a good night’s sleep. They are also helpful for sound and noise absorption.
Having the option to filter natural light coming into your bedroom is absolutely necessary – something that will diffuse light, and create a bright space without compromising on privacy. Sheer curtains and roller blinds are great ways to layer up your bedroom windows whilst keeping them effortlessly chic.
7. Layer Lighting to Create an Ambiance
Having more than one light source in your bedroom will help luxuriate your space. Depending on your bedroom design, go for a combination of a chandelier, a pendant light, or semi-flush ceiling lighting together with wall sconces or even task lighting on your nightstands to create a warm atmosphere in your space.
Dimmable table lamps in bedrooms are also great for creating a gorgeous atmosphere. For bedroom reading nooks, consider adding a floor lamp to cozy up that area of your room.
8. Mix and Match Pillows and Blankets
Whether you opt for a maximalist decor with lots of vibrant shades or a minimalist design style with muted tones, layering blankets and pillows on your bed remains an important way in which to elevate your bedroom decor.
As for pillows, getting the right combination that helps tie your room aesthetic is key. Start by adding your sleeping pillows before gradually incorporating decorative throw pillows of different sizes, shapes, and textures to create a tiered layered look.
Work from the largest pillows at the back to the smallest pillows at the front. You can choose to layer your pillows flat on your bed for a modern look or you can lean them up for a more traditional look.
The same principle applies to layering your bedding to achieve that lush plush look that is going to make your space look more luxurious. So always have your duvet folded to make it
look as large and puffy as possible. You can layer in a quilt and a throw blanket that are really going to add texture, warmth, and a welcoming feeling to your bedroom.
Of course, good quality bedding makes such a big difference to the way your bedding feels. But, it is not always about buying the most expensive sheets and the expensive duvet to get that look, you can create the same experience by layering the blankets and sheets you have purchased from different furnishings stores in a tasteful manner. Simply make sure that there is cohesion in the choice of your bedding color scheme, whether you choose to contrast hues or go for gradient shades of the same base color.
9. Make a Statement with Wall Art
If you are redecorating your bedroom, make sure you include a large statement art piece. Add something that is going to tie together the color scheme and the style of your space by bringing in that wow factor. A big painting, a gallery wall, or a handwoven wall rug are a few decorative options that can really expand the look of your walls. They will draw your eyes up and add another element of detail to your space.
You can choose to finish off your wall art piece with a picture light that infuses more layered lighting into your bedroom, creating a beautiful effect in your bedroom. Depending on your bedroom configuration, hang your wall art right above your bed or beside your nightstands. Alternatively, place your large impactful art piece opposite your bed to make your bedroom look like a five-star holiday retreat in a drop-dead gorgeous location.
