You could be planning to improve your home with a minimal budget to rely on. However, the goal is always to end with an attractive space and durable installations. Of all rooms in your home, the kitchen is likely to take the lion’s share of your home renovation funds.
The kitchen is the essential room in your home; it is where all family members and friends are likely to congregate most of the time. Also, an amazingly furnished kitchen is the best way to inspire anybody to prepare sweet and healthy meals.
The objective of functional design in our home is to provide enough quality to our everyday lives and increase the property’s value.
Fortunately, there is no need to spend a fortune on kitchen renovation, especially if you are happy with the one you have, although it looks old and small.
Below are some of the most creative and strategic tips to make your kitchen more functional and inspirational:
1. Improve The Lighting
Improving the lighting in your kitchen can seem like a minor adjustment, but it makes the entire space look better and easier to work in.
We recommend fixing modern but affordable lights that you can buy locally or online – my favorite sources are West Elm and Schoolhouse.
2. Consider Open Storage Spaces
Taking out some of the upper cabinets can radically alter how your kitchen looks. The space appears lighter and fresh and will serve your needs better in that way.
Open shelves provide the ideal space to display dishes, cookbooks, fresh herbs, serving platters, and other kitchen items. They also offer greater convenience, allowing you to pick and put back the dishes quickly.
USEFUL TIP: Consider buying dishes and glassware in stacks of the same shape and color, so the piles do not look disorganized when put out in the display. Otherwise, you might be compelled to put away the mismatched dishes or the ones you rarely use.
Instead of open cabinetry, consider removing all the upper cabinets and installing open floating shelves in their place or simply removing the doors and hardware on the existing upper cabinets. You can also open up your space with the right interior doors.

3. Install A Backsplash
Installing a backsplash is a great way to amplify the appearance of your kitchen space. A backsplash of white subway tiles and old oak cabinets will appear relatively modern.
Patterned ceramic tiles are exciting and with significant impact on your space, mainly if your kitchen is small or you can only finish one wall. Instead of tiles, you can add a backsplash of shiplap or wainscoting panels – both options are affordable but beautiful.
4. Replace Your Kitchen Hardware
Changing old cabinet hardware and/or faucets may cost you a small amount of time or money but will significantly enhance how the space looks.
For example, you can accomplish a mixed-metal modern look by buying hardware made of black, sleek polished chrome, or bold brass, even if you own appliances made of stainless steel.
5. Upgrade The Kitchen Island/Peninsula
Another easy way to enhance the appearance of your kitchen is to paint your island or peninsula or add corbels or shiplap at the back of the island or peninsula.
If your island does not have seating, you can buy a new countertop with an overhang to extend your island and add legs to support the extension. The new countertop can have a different color from the rest of the kitchen space.
6. Incorporate Some Interesting Elegance
Other than paint and tile, there are different ways to incorporate some elegant and exciting décor using art, a lamp hanging above the counter, a vintage mirror or rack, copper pans or pots, or a silver tray to place your cooking oil above.
7. Cover Your Cabinets with The Right Paint
This is an old but proven tip. Your cabinets could be in excellent condition, but the color may have gotten too old. Instead of buying new cabinets, consider painting them with the right paint.
Consider colors like classic white or a soft, light grey; alternatively, you can adopt a two-toned appearance for your cabinets.
