Tips for Container Gardening — We are from completely different backgrounds yet both of us had the desire to plant a backyard garden of our own sometime. My spouse was born and raised in Campbellton, N.B. where her parents had a small home garden. I lived on a farm in Ontario and had a big vegetable garden larger than their backyard.
Once we got married we rented a house, outside Moncton. It came with a stunning view of the river although they would not permit us to dig in the yard. The second location was an apartment with just 1 small window which received any sort of sunlight.
Following that was a duplex though we only had a 2-foot rectangle where my wife planted Petunias and Pansies.
5 Tips for Container Gardening
Without any spot to plant a home garden, I turned to making use of plant containers then launched my first container garden indoors. Afterwards, I transferred the plants outdoors but still in containers for our very first backyard container garden. I placed the pots on the side of the house on our drive was.
Home gardens seem to be showing up all around us right now. I think the majority have been started in an endeavour to save on expenses. I started container gardening a long time ago mainly because it was a desire I have had since being a kid growing up on a farm in Ontario.
1. Even a Windowsill Makes a Great Location for Your Own Personal Container Garden
An awesome tip to begin with: Your only need is natural light, vegetables have a problem developing when lacking direct sunlight.
While in my 20s I was living and was working in Mississauga, Ontario. My apartment was on the eleventh floor and looked like a jungle with vines and plants in each and every nook, however, I didn’t begin cultivating vegetables until a handful of buddies helped me learn tips on how to prepare food. This is when I planted our first natural herb container garden on the windowsill looking over my balcony.
Afterwards, I tried cultivating tomatoes and taters in containers, I put on the balcony after the weather conditions became sufficiently warm.
Yes, I planted potatoes on my balcony where they developed plenty of potatoes. The potatoes never grew huge comparable to while I was growing up on the farm but they without a doubt were yummy when boiled and eaten together with butter and herbs.

Practically all that is required for the container garden is a container having excellent drainage, dirt, sunshine, H2O plus time. I would recommend you start with a herb garden since they grow up rapidly and can keep on growing while you cut off herbs for cooking with.
Our windowsill was kind of narrow and packed so my friend created a plant stand that allowed me to have nearly triple the number of containers I had produced on the windowsill.
After we had been married we moved into one half of a duplex though we were not allowed to dig up the yard. And so we basically had the driveway to grow our container garden.
2. Making Goals for a Natural Container Garden
Want to do something for your self, family members, friends and for the earth, produced naturally only. It can be way too easy to use nasty chemicals in our gardens and then we suffer for it, even if you’re not really conscious of it. Let me tell you that I have dealt with my entire life having migraines brought on by reactions to toxins around me.
Be Aware: Ever since we began buying specific soap to clean veggies we buy I have not suffered from a single migraine, okay except the times I ate fruits and vegetables I assumed had been scrubbed.
3. Prevent Dried Out Vegetables by Simply Having Pots Big Enough to Hold Water
I previously mentioned my veggie pots not really having sufficient water for the day, however, thanks to a friend who observed our droopy potato plants we now have better luck growing vegetables in pots.
Some of My Buddies Shared Three Good Tips on Using Pots for Vegetable Gardening:
Helen’s Container Gardening Tip
One thing he laughed and said our containers were not large enough. So to avoid growing to be root bound as well as to stop insufficient water make use of containers that will be sizable enough to handle the task.
Betty’s Container Gardening Tip
Use a reservoir of some sort beneath the pots to help hold more water so when you are not home.
Later on, I learned how to drip feed the container garden so that they can last a day or two without me watering them so often.
Tom’s Container Gardening Tip
A new neighbour explained that putting them in the driveway would likely dry the plants out quicker if I placed artificial lawn underneath them they probably would not get so hot in the daytime.
That’s yet another idea that worked. I put my hand on the turf on a day that you could potentially cook an egg on the driveway and the turf was cool to touch.
4. You Could Try Lifting Your Pots Off of the Ground
Raising your containers even an inch off the ground permits a breeze to move under them this way they are less likely to cook them the roots.
5. A Cool Container Garden Layout
I am going to admit I have not played with any kind of creative layout with our pots. However, I’ve come across some that are pretty cool looking.
6. Start With Planting a Herb Container Garden
My wife and I started cultivating herbs to add to meals a number of years ago. It turned out to be pretty easy so we have herbs all winter long. We keep a herb container garden during the summer so we can dry extra herbs for winter as well. We enjoy cooking with both fresh or dried herbs.
I’ve seen people put containers into tree stumps after they have cut them down. Some look really good while others just look like a stump with a potted plant sitting on top of it.
Pick up a container gardening book and you will find so many new things that will help you have the best container garden you can have.

I painted mine all black! I think that this looks even cooler! I use them down in Texas in my front yard – square and round galvanized tubs and have got compliments about my container garden and where can they get these containers!
