5 Tips to Maintain Your Lawn

Get Rid of Pests

Pests are one of the worst problems you can have with your lawn. Whether it is gophers, moles, or groundhogs, these creatures can really tear up your yard.

When you notice you have one or more of these pests in your yard and on your property, it is important to act quickly.

There are many different types of traps and other removal methods on the market today. If you would rather have a professional do it, be sure to call one quickly, as the longer you let it go on, the more the service will cost.

Getting rid of pests is one of the best ways you can maintain your lawn. You can find more information on pests here.

Keep Weeds Down

One of the easiest ways that your lawn can begin to lose nutrients and begin to struggle is by weeds beginning to take over.

Weeds fight with your grass and other plants for sunlight, water, and nutrients, and oftentimes win these battles. Once weeds get a grip on your lawn, it can be tough to keep them controlled.

One of the best ways to get rid of weeds is to simply use weed killer in certain spots where the weeds are taking over, as broadcasting it all over your lawn can harm your soil.

Soil Test

One of the best ways to understand how your lawn will react to various treatments and problems is by knowing what the soil is made up of.

Using a soil pH test on your lawn requires very little knowledge and can be a great way to understand what is going on below the ground.

This may cost a little money, but if you do the testing through a quality lab, it will be well worth it.

Clean It Up

One of the easiest ways to hurt a lawn is to leave layers of leaves, woodpiles, and any other debris sitting on it for a long period of time.

If you leave a layer of debris on top of your grass, a layer of mold and another disease will ravage your lawn in that area.

Simply rake up all of your leaves and be sure to find a good spot for wood and brick piles, and you will be good to go. In addition, this tip also prevents pests from being attracted to your lawn, as they generally love debris.

Fertilize

One important component of grass thriving and surviving is the addition of fertilizer to your soil. If your grass has had a not-so-healthy look to it, it may be because it is lacking certain nutrients it needs.

One of the best ways to figure out which fertilizers to use is to have a soil test was done that examines your lawn for any low amounts of certain nutrients.
